Do's and don'ts of buying running kit
When it comes to choosing and buying kit, the modern runner is spoilt for choice. ...

Running shoes develop at such a fast pace, as brands try to out-think their rivals and stay ahead of the running gear industry. Running shoes have changed so much in the last ten years that it's hard to keep up with the latest running inventions. With this in mind, it's important not to get too confused or worried about the ongoing developments in running shoe technology.
Not sure of the difference between the IGS running system, PHF technology, skeleton composite wave, the ground control system, or TS2 transitional support? Don’t worry; you don’t need to know!
As developments in shoe technology have moved ahead at a real pace over the last few years it’s very difficult to compare one against the other. Each brand has technologies and trademarks, with their own names, one brand does one thing and another takes it a stage further. They catch up and then the other takes it a stage further still.
Suffice to say a pair of running shoes now is a totally different animal from a pair of five years ago. Brands are investing millions to stay ahead of their competitors and it’s us, the runners, who benefit. Generally speaking we haven’t really had to pay for this investment. Shoes are not much more expensive than they were a few years back and they are far better than they ever been.
Not only should today’s shoes last longer but they also look after you far more than they ever have. These ongoing technological developments are protecting your feet and giving you unparalleled levels of support.
It’s not about gimmicks, as these changes are having a real effect on the quality of the shoes that you’re now wearing. Remember the shoe adverts of ten years ago and you’ll see how things have changed!
If you really want to know the benefits of one brand’s technology over another then go to a specialist running shop and ask an expert.
