The running benefits of glucosamine

Can taking a daily supplement help your running?

Whilst it is a hot topic of debate whether energy supplements improve your running, there is evidence to suggest that joint health supplements such as glucosamine can develop your body's joints and therefore improve your day-to-day running performance. Here's an introduction to the running benefits provided by glucosamine supplements.

Research has shown that glucosamine can benefit joint health, and two new glucosamine joint health supplements specifically formulated to maintain joint mobility and reduce arthritis pain are worth looking out for.

Seven Seas have launched high potency glucosamine with chondroitin, and also Omega 3 and high potency glucosamine with vitamin C. Both are formulated for the physically active to help maintain the health of joints and cartilage.

Connective tissue in the joints is continually broken down through daily running use. Unfortunately, the body’s ability to manufacture glucosamine is not always efficient, which can cause problems in the rebuilding of cartilage in the joints.

Daily wear and tear on joints as a result of physical movement is inevitable and in the long term can lead to damaged cartilage, limited movement and in severe cases, osteoarthritis. Natural ageing also slows down the renewal process.

Tests have shown that glucosamine can help reduce damage to cartilage in the joints, reduce joint pain, and there is now a growing body of evidence showing it to be effective in easing the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Seven Seas high potency glucosamine with chondroitin and omega 3 combines the two most important amino acids in joint health with high levels of omega 3 fish oil. The combination makes it an effective supplement to keep joints healthy.

A daily supplement of Glucosamine sulphate is an easy way to help prevent the progression of cartilage damage and stimulate the production of new cartilage. It is actually found as an integral constituent in the structure of cartilage, tendons and ligaments, which are constantly being rebuilt.

Omega–3 polyunsaturated fatty acids cannot be made by the body and have to be obtained through diet, but have been shown to help reduce inflammation and help maintain all round good health and healthy circulation.

Chondroitin also plays an important role in joint care, as it is involved in the attraction of fluid that lubricates the joints. It occurs naturally in only a small number of foods, so a supplement is a useful way of getting sufficient quantities.

Seven Seas high potency glucosamine with vitamin C has the dual benefit of glucosamine and vitamin C at high levels. It comes as an orange effervescent with a powerful punch of 750mg glucosamine and 500mg vitamin C.

Vitamin C plays a primary role in the formation of collagen, which is important for growth and repair of body tissue cells and bones. It is an antioxidant, and helps protect the body’s tissues against the damaging effects of excess free radicals.
